Austrian regulator adopts final schedule for mobile termination rates that ‘flattens the gliding path’

    -

Telekom Austria Group has announced that the Austrian Regulatory Authority has adopted the final schedule for the reduction of mobile termination charges in Austria. Compared to the draft published in April 2009, the gliding path is said to have been flattened by an extension of five months resulting in a final mobile termination rate of 2.01 cent by June 1, 2011 with incremental reductions of 0.5 cents instead of 0.62 cents.

In April 2009 the Austrian Regulatory Authority announced a draft for a new gliding path designed to reduce uniform termination rate to 2.01 cents by January 1, 2011 for all mobile communication operators. The draft published foresaw a cut of 0.62 cents from 4.50 cents on July 1, 2009 and further reductions of an equivalent amount every six months.

In the final schedule the regulator has decided to prolong the gliding path by five month until June 1, 2011 instead of January 1, 2011. The published schedule foresees a cut of 0.5 cents instead of 0.62 cents starting from 4.50 cents on July 1, 2009 and further reductions of an equivalent amount every six months until the bottom level of 2.01 cents will be reached on June 1, 2011.
