castLabs, a mobile broadcasting technologies and services company, is to provide the mobile TV service delivery platform for DVB-H in Austria. castLabs has been selected by Media Broadcast, an international broadcast service provider and holder of the Austrian DVB-H license, to deliver the 'world's first' integrated DRM and Smartcard profile solution to take up operations. In addition, it will be the first fully OMA BCAST compliant service delivery platform worldwide to become ready for operation. castLabs´platform for the launch of DVB-H in Austria includes key features such as ESG management, offer management, and Conditional Access.
The Austrian DVB-H service is expected to be launched in early June, only three months after the start of the collaboration between castLabs and Media Broadcast. The solution is part of the headend of the nationwide DVB-H broadcasting network in Austria, which is to supply all EURO 2008 venues from the very beginning, allowing the majority of the Austrian population to receive fifteen domestic and international TV programs and five Austrian radio programs in digital quality on mobile devices.
"We are excited about the high level of system integration provided by castLabs´ platform," said Dr. Bertold Heil, manager of international DVB-H projects at Media Broadcast. "We expect Austria to become a leading mobile TV market in Europe. With castLabs, we have found an excellent partner to contribute a pioneering mobile TV service delivery platform to our projects."
"Our goal was to deliver a customized platform for Media Broadcast which not only supports all DRM profile devices, but also future Smartcard profile devices. This is the first solution worldwide to allow seamless integration of both technologies," added Michael Stattmann, Managing Director of castLabs.
