The OMTP (Open Mobile Terminal Platform), the mobile operator sponsored organisation, has today announced a set of recommendations documents which focus on Advanced Device Management (ADM). Aimed at, and supported by the operator community, the recommendations set out the requirements that will enable operators to provide enhanced and trusted over-the-air updates to their customer's devices.
With the multitude of devices available in today's market, ranging from the basic voice-centric devices to the more complex ‘smart' devices, customers are demanding more from their operator services. Through DM, operators can manage the users' device remotely and provide service updates for hardware, firmware and software. The OMTP requirements are said to provide the consistency of approach in this complex area.
Tim Raby, Managing Director, OMTP, commented: "Announcing the Advanced Device Management Recommendations highlights perfectly the invaluable work of the OMTP and its members. Working across numerous organisations to agree common requirements for a fully functional end-to-end device management platform will ultimately benefit not just our members but also the end user. These recommendations take us closer to an environment where consistency and user experience is put firmly at the top of the industry's agenda."
