Spirent Communications and Rohde & Schwarz collaborate on MediaFLO testing solutions

    -

Spirent Communications a global provider of performance analysis and service management solutions, and Rohde & Schwarz, a leading supplier in the field of test and measurement, have announced a cooperative agreement designed to help MediaFLO device manufacturers accelerate their development and testing cycles.

MediaFLO is based on FLO technology, a globally recognized air interface standard that is supported by the FLO Forum and more than 80+ industry members. It is designed to increase wireless network capacity and coverage and to reduce multimedia delivery costs. MediaFLO testing is partitioned into three distinct areas. The two companies have agreed that Spirent will provide Minimum Performance (FLO I) solutions, while R&S will provide the Services and Features (FLO II) and Interoperability (FLO III) solutions. In addition, each company will make use of components from the other within their respective MediaFLO test systems.

"Spirent is always striving to serve our customers' needs in the most effective ways possible," said Nigel Wright, vice president of product marketing at Spirent. "This agreement with Rohde & Schwarz not only allows Spirent to deliver solutions to our customers within our proven area of expertise, it also allows our customers to leverage their past investments in Spirent equipment for use within R&S' FLO III solution."

"This agreement allows us to focus on delivering solutions that complement our market strengths," said Jack Cowper, vice president at Rohde & Schwarz, Inc. "By collaborating with Spirent we are both able to deliver MediaFLO testing solutions the market needs in the timeliest manner."

To allow customers to leverage prior investments in test solutions, Spirent's FLO1-ATS system now includes the R&S FSP7 spectrum analyzer, R&S SMA100A signal generator, two R&S SMJ100A vector signal generators, and R&S NRP-Z11 power sensor. For FLO III testing, Rohde & Schwarz will add Spirent's C2K-ATS line of systems to their R&S TU8980 system and software automation. The combination of existing solutions and the leveraging of each company's subject matter expertise will allow Spirent and Rohde & Schwarz to deliver test solutions in a more timely fashion. As a direct result, the MediaFLO industry will be able to bring products and services to market faster and with better quality.
