    Vodafone UK makes 450 redundant

    -

Cuts management jobs by 20%, but adds sales and  support staff

Vodafone UK is making 450 staff redundant, it has said today. Senior management levels will be reduced by 20%, and most of the jobs will go at its Newbury HQ.
Vodafone said reducing staf numbers would “simplify its operating model, to improve the
speed and agility of its head office functions in supporting its customer facing operations.”
The announcement comes at the same time as Vodafone announced it will be recruiting an additional 330 sales staff for its retail outlets, targeted to increase and improve sales of data services and products.  Another 30 staff will be added to a new, 850 seat call centre in Stoke-on-Trent. The company will also add 130 staff to its enterprise division.
All the additional jobs are part of a drive to boost sales of mobile data products and services, the operator said.
Nick Read, Chief Executive of Vodafone UK commented: “Vodafone UK is clearly focused on building on its market leading position in data products and services. Today we are announcing a series of targeted investments to meet growing demand in this area, whilst simplifying the way we work, putting the customer at the heart of everything we do.”
