3GSM NEWS: Synchronica adds client provisioning module to Mobile Gateway

    -

Synchronica, an international provider of mobile synchronization and device management solutions, announced today the addition of a client provisioning module to its award-winning Mobile Gateway 3.0 (formerly SyncML Gateway) push email and synchronization solution. This will provide users with an intuitive web portal for provisioning their phones for push email quickly and easily, increasing the take-up rate and reducing support costs.

Mobile Gateway 3.0 is among the first mobile email solutions on the market to provide provisioning capabilities as a standard feature. Using the widely adopted industry standard OMA CP (Open Mobile Alliance Client Provisioning), Synchronica’s client provisioning module provides over-the-air configuration of synchronization (SyncML / OMA DS) and email clients (IMAP / SMTP), removing the need for manual device configuration. Users simply select their country, operator, phone maker and model from a menu in the Mobile Gateway portal and receive a configuration message on their phone, automatically configuring the device for push email and synchronization.

“Studies have shown that about 40 percent of all support calls to operators’ call centers are related to configuration of services on mobile devices”, said Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica. “The client provisioning module of the Mobile Gateway reduces the support costs associated with the introduction of push email by providing an intuitive end-user portal for mobile device provisioning of IMAP, SMTP and SyncML clients. Users can now configure their devices over the air quickly and easily, and mobile operators and ASPs can benefit from increased revenues of correctly configured devices.”

Synchronica’s Mobile Gateway provides carrier-grade push email and synchronization services for the mass market addressing both consumers and business users. Mobile Gateway also includes back-end support for popular email services such as MSN or Yahoo and provides a unique zero footprint architecture where users simply register their devices with the hosted Mobile Gateway and instantly receive email on their devices, with no connectors required behind the firewall.

Addressing the widest possible market, Mobile Gateway 3.0 combines Push IMAP and LEMONADE for mobile email with SyncML / OMA DS for synchronization of calendar, contacts and tasks without requiring additional client software on the device. The combination of these standards allows Synchronica to deliver push email to mass market feature phones representing the vast majority of devices as well as high-end smartphones used in the business user segment.

Mobile Gateway provides carrier-grade scalability with load balancing and failover and runs on any J2EE application server using Solaris, Linux or Windows servers. It currently provides back-end support for Sun JES and Microsoft Exchange and is scheduled to include support for Lotus Domino later in the year.
