On the ROAD to PC on your mobile

A “Universal platform for future mobile computing”, no less

German start-up ROAD has developed a Linux-based handheld device which it says offers the same user interface as a PC on a mobile device. The developer says it will launch the HandyPC s101, an example device developed on its platform, in September.

ROAD is offering the LINUX software of the first handyPC for further development and wants to grant licences to use the handyPC platform to mobile phone and notebook manufacturers.

The company claims various manufacturers from all over the world are interested in the product, although the inventor Hans Constin and his co-partner Hubertus von Streit prefer manufacturing in Germany, which seems to limit their options a little.

In a patriotic press release ROAD said the Handy PC is another example of German innovation which has brought us the Walkman, the MP3 and fax machine.
