Intuitive UI seems to lift service usage

Virgin Mobile’s sales and marketing director Graeme Hutchison has said that the operator measured a 33% uplift to ARPU from users who have Zi’s Qix software installed on their phones.

Qix is a predicitive text and search technology that enables users to discover services and applications by entering a word, rather than navigating through a menu.

Virgin Mobile has been running a trial with users of Nokia’s 6630 handsets. It said SMS, MMS and internet data service usage all increased amongst trial users.

“We have collected and analysed our usage data and are very pleased with the ARPU results of the trial.  Virgin Mobile has measured a minimum monthly ARPU improvement of 33% for users with QIX-enabled handsets, up until the end of April 2006.  We look forward to working with Zi and our continued use of Qix”, Hutchinson said.

Milos Djokovic, Chief Operating Officer of Zi Corporation.  “Users are finding mobile phones increasingly difficult to navigate, but Qix cuts through the complexity, encouraging users to discover the latest services available”.
