    Motorola pushes Push-to-Talk over Celllar

    -

But not so much in Western Europe

Despite other vendors cooling on the technology, Motorola has chalked up 41 contracts for the deployment of push-to-talk on the Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) standard in 32 countries worldwide. However, of all these contracts just three, two of them in Portugal, are in Western Europe.

Motorola has delivered its IMS-based PoC solution to 41 separate wireless carriers in 32 countries and territories. The solution includes both handset and infrastructure elements, and operates within both GSM and CDMA networks. Motorola PoC customers include Telcel, VIVO, and Claro in Central and South America, Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan, Turkcell in Turkey and Vodafone New Zealand.

In Western Europe however contracts are limited to Bouygues Telecom in France, and TMN and Optimus in Portugal.

Greeting the success in other markets, Margaret Rice-Jones, corporate vice president and region management, Motorola Networks EMEA, said, “We’re rapidly approaching a future where ‘push-to’ technology will enable operators to offer a whole host of new services to their subscribers.

“The number of new contracts awarded over the past year is testament to our leadership in PoC as well as our deep understanding of the market.”

“Later this year, we anticipate being first-to-market with a complete next generation ‘Push-to-View’ solution on GSM PoC handsets,” added Peter Neary, director, Motorola Mobile Devices. “This will once again reinforce Motorola’s innovative leadership position in the ‘push-to’ category.”
