Siemens-NEC gets radio network, Nokia the core
Siemens and Nokia have been awarded contracts to build supply network equipment for Vodafone Hungary’s 3G network. Nokia has concluded an agreement for the supply of a complete WCDMA 3G core network while Siemens is sole supplier to deliver and install all necessary W-CDMA radio equipment.
“We have chosen Siemens as our 3G technology partner because of its international experience and strong presence in Central and Eastern Europe. With the implementa-tion of the 3G/W-CDMA network we will be able to provide our customers with a higher speed of data transfer and higher quality of services,” said Gábor Döbrossy, CTO of Vodafone Hungary.
Döbrossy was equally impressed with Nokia’s expertise in the core network. Nokia is providing its 3GPP Release 4 based MSC Server System, including the Nokia MSC Server and Nokia Multimedia Gateway, and Nokia packet core network equipment for 3G.
“We are very impressed with the capabilities and quality of Nokia’s core network solution,” said Döbrossy. “Its innovative release 4 design will help us optimize costs as we bring Hungary’s most advanced multimedia services to the market.”
Nokia has been Vodafone Hungary’s sole supplier of GSM network equipment since it began its network in 1999.
