Standards group releases updated interface for vehicle to cloud

    -

The SENSORIS data specification is designed to closes the loop between a vehicle’s sensors, maps and connected services.

As well as attributes describing the status within the vehicle, the updated specification covers observable and derived aspects of the world such as weather, road infrastructure, traffic regulation, traffic events like jams and accidents, and behaviour.

This third iteration is the ERTICO-driven platform SENSORIS, version v1.2.0. ERTICO – ITS Europe is a public-private partnership of 120 companies and organisations representing service providers, suppliers, the traffic and transport industry, research, public authorities, users, mobile operators and vehicle manufacturers.

    What’s new?

This new version is the result of the close collaboration between ERTICO members and the EU Data Task Force‘s work on safety-related traffic information from vehicle sensors.

This version is available to SENSORIS members and will be published under the Creative Commons licence in July 2021, although fixes have been applied public version under v1.1.1 which is downloadable here.

The first SENSORIS standard was released in 2018 with v1.1 a year later, which enabled sensors’ data requests from the cloud to the vehicle.

    Fast and agile

SENSORIS’ coordinator Jean-Charles Pandazis (ERTICO) said, “After only five years, SENSORIS members have quickly achieved the platform’s standardisation target.  We now have a recognised standard that is starting to be used on the market.

In fact, SENSORIS specifies the data interface enabling the exchange of sensor vehicle data to the cloud, as well as the request for sensor data in a region, for example. The SENSORIS specification is use case independent, which makes it powerful. Finally, I am proud of the fact that we have set-up an agile process for updating our standard, increasing its usability,” he concluded.
