Vodafone UK signs up CityFibre for dark fibre connectivity

    -

Vodafone UK will use dark fibre connectivity from CityFibre after signing a nationwide deal.

The vendor will boost the operator’s national estate of mobile cell sites and selected corporate customer locations.

York is the first location where Vodafone will lean on CityFibre’s infrastructure, a city where CityFibre trialled FTTH with Sky and TalkTalk.

CityFibre CEO Greg Mesch said: “This contract from Vodafone marks yet another important milestone for CityFibre, following two years of engagement and negotiations with this important new partner.

“As an approved supplier to Vodafone, CityFibre now has the opportunity to bring enhanced pure fibre connectivity to Vodafone’s customers.”

CityFibre already provides dark fibre backhaul to EE and Three.

The deal with Vodafone should ease the performance issues that have seen the operator frequently bottom out in performance reports.

Speaking to Mobile Europe in January, Mesch said dark fibre was critical for pushing operators away from BT Openreach and bringing the UK’s broadband market up to speed with the rest of the world.
