The blueprint was developed collaboratively within the trade association for telecom firms and is intended to speed operators’ digital transformation.
The Open Digital Framework was announced at the Forum’s flagship event in May in Nice, France. It appears to be a schematic designed to promote the organisation's assets and explain their relationship or relevance to each other.
This first element is dedicated to business and IT agility.
At that announcement in May, the Forum said that, the goal of the Open Digital Framework is to allow members to transform business agility, accelerating concept-to-cash cycles from 18 months to 18 days.
It also said that according to its own research, 72% of new business opportunities created by 5G require a change in service providers’ operating models.
The framework combines tools, knowledge and standards to help replace “legacy ways of working”, including through zero-touch interoperability and ecosystem partnerships.
This first instalment, for business and IT agility, includes:
• Open Digital Architecture (ODA), another blueprint which encompasses enterprise architecture, common language and key design principles for modular, cloud-based, open digital platforms that can be orchestrated using AI.
• Open APIs – more than 50 REST-based APIs designed to ease zero-touch integration and zero-touch partnering.
• Data & AI standards around a data model that it is hoped will help avoid fragmentation, plus with standards for AI relating to customer experience and operational efficiency.
• Reference implementations – another framework for assembling and validating ODA components in the Forum’s Open Digital Lab, to foster a services marketplace.
• Practical guidance in the form of guides and videos to show how the Open Digital Framework can be applied.
• Frameworx foundational libraries, which are models that provide a common language for business processes (eTOM) and information (SID). They are widely deployed by operators around the world.
According to the website, three more elements will be added to the Open Digital Framework: digital customer experience, B2B growth; and B2C growth. It does not specify when.
