    Huawei takes OpenLab to Moscow

    -

Huawei has opened its latest OpenLab in Moscow and is targeting innovation in the Internet of Things, mobile data and virtualisation areas.

The lab is Huawei’s tenth but the vendor has plans to reach 20 by 2020 thanks to a $200 million investment fund.

It will provide partners with remote access to its facilities through a Lab-as-a-Service model. It gave the example of giving access to Huawei engineers to support the integration and testing of cloud data centres and associated apps.

The China-based company said the finance, transportation, energy, oil, gas and public safety industries would be the main areas of focus. It added that it is already working with 51 Russian companies on a variety of projects.

Aiden Wu, President of Huawei Russia, said: “Huawei is committed to become the best partner for building a digital society, intelligent social development, and industry digital transformation.

“Our strategy is to develop ‘platform + ecosystem’, to invest in new technologies such as cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, mobile broadband and SDN, to create an open, flexible, secure and agile ICT infrastructure platform.

“By building an ecosystem and collaborating extensively with partners we are helping customers achieve success in digital transformation.”

The vendor has been involved in a wide range of trials and research across Europe in recent years. Last month it worked with Vodafone on upgrading its VoLTE platform and has been a key player in TIM’s ongoing 5G projects.
