As Telefónica rolls out 5G across Spain, the provider chose Juniper’s Security Gateway to safeguard traffic and protect infrastructure.
It chose Juniper’s Security Gateway for its performance, scalability and service integration: Juniper has a long-standing relationship with Telefónica Spain.
This implementation will secure Telefónica’s mobile backhaul and reduce CapEx and OpEx as Juniper’s OS, Junos, is already intergrated into the operator’s sytems. Also, it uses common service cards in its MX and SRX units, providing the capacity to grow as needed.
Juniper’s AutoVPN supports a single one- SecGW configuration for all gNodeB points, even those newly added.
Gateway security platform
Telefónica will deploy the SRX5800 Services Gateway security platform that includes vSRX and cSRX, which apparently means the solution can extend “seamlessly” across the telco’s cloud infrastructure.
The Services Processing Card (SPC3) for IPsec enhances the SRX5800, SRX5600 and SRX5400 to meet the high bandwidth requirements of gNodeB on mobile backhaul security for large scale 5G deployments.
The Input Output Cards (IOC4) deliver the highest throughput of the SRX5000 series line cards of up to 480Gbps with multiple connectivity options from 10GbE to 100GbE.
IoT, augmented reality and more
Joaquin Mata, Chief Technology Officer, Telefónica Spain, said, “The rollout of our 5G network delivers an enhanced mobile experience for our customers, as well as new connectivity use cases such as IoT, augmented reality and others.
“We need to ensure that the network traffic from all connected devices can traverse our network securely without impacting network performance. By leveraging Juniper’s single, low-latency security platform, we can be confident, regardless of scale, that our 5G network will be secure now and into the future.”
