Deutsche Telekom to use SK Telecom’s 5G repeaters for indoor trial

    -

SK Telecom will provide 5G repeaters to support Deutsche Telekom’s customer trial for 5G indoor coverage in Germany.

Repeaters amplify radio frequency signals and will be required for 5G roll-out as higher frequency bands generate signals that are often too weak to penetrate buildings. SK Telecom’s 5G repeater, presented by Claudia Nemat, Member of the Deutsche Telekom, Board of Management, Technology and Innovation, is also designed to support 4G signals.

SK Telecom and Deutsche Telekom will analyse customer feedback gained through the trial to optimise the 5G repeater and move towards the launch of the device in Germany.

Deutsche Telekom plans to launch the customer trial of indoor 5G in the second quarter of this year with up to 200 enterprise and individual participants.

    Smaller businesses

“Especially for our smaller business customers, it is a great opportunity to equip their premises with fast mobile communications. It allows them and their customers to benefit from the new opportunities offered by 5G,” said Hagen Rickmann, Managing Director for Business Customers at Deutsche Telekom in Germany.

Ha Hyung-il, Vice President and Head of Corporate Center 2, SK Telecom, added, “Through the successful implementation of the customer trial for 5G repeater[s], we hope to further improve the experience of Deutsche Telekom customers and strengthen the two companies’ leadership in 5G.”
