Nokia takes 30% of new optical LTE work with China Mobile

    -

Nokia claims it has won more than 30 percent of China Mobile’s 2016/17 construction work for its next-generation mobile broadband network, slated to be the largest 4G network anywhere with 300 million subscribers.

The Finnish firm said it will deploy a 100G optical transport network (OTN) and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) backbone, based on its flagship packet-optical transport platform, the Nokia 1830 PSS-24x.

A four port 100G DWDM line card for optical transport platform will enable China Mobile to simply and quickly add optical capacity as needed, and to meet rising demand from an expanding base for mobile data with higher network speeds and better quality.

Mike Wang, Head of the joint management team of Nokia Networks China and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, said: “This is a crucial win with our longstanding partner. With our innovative 100G OTN solution, we are able to help China Mobile meet the higher requirements for large-scale 4G construction.

“We are committed to delivering the latest optical transmission innovations to enable China Mobile to optimise its networks and open up new opportunities for subscribers.”

The GSA, the association for mobile suppliers, said in June that China had added 96 million LTE subscribers during the first quarter of 2016.

Nokia’s partnership with China Mobile goes back to 1994. The pair has just announced a €1.36 billion deal to shift the operator to a flexible cloud network.

The vendor has also worked recently with China Mobile to deploy a dense small cell network to enable real-time video at a motor racing event in Shanghai, China.
