Huawei completes NFV tests with Wind River, opens new R&D centre

Huawei and Wind River have successfully completed a multi-vendor integration test of Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV)-based network architecture.

The test aimed to verify the integration capability among different layers of the NFV network architecture. It involved Wind River’s Titanium Server NFV software platform being integrated with Huawei’s FusionServer E9000 server, virtual evolved packet core, virtual IMS software and management and orchestration.

According to Huawei, the test comprised six types of use case and 56 test cases, with all test items passing verification.

Jim Douglas, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Wind River, said: “Service providers are looking for validated and market-ready end-to-end NFV solutions. To address this need, collaboration across the ecosystem is essential.

“The successful validation shows the commitment of Huawei and Wind River to build an open and cooperative industry ecosystem for NFV network evolution. We look forward to continuing and evolving our longstanding relationship with Huawei.”

Meanwhile, Huawei opened a new R&D centre in Ireland this week.

The new facility will focus on business innovation, network services, cloud and customer experience, as well as service provider ICT transformation.

Zhou Hong, President of Huawei’s European Research Institute, said: “Each year, Huawei invests at least ten per cent of its global revenue in R&D. The opening of our newest Dublin facility highlights our long term dedication to investment and opportunities in Ireland’s technology sector. 

“The facility will tap into Dublin’s growing clusters of cloud and technology businesses, nurturing future talent and providing additional new opportunities for highly-skilled professionals.”
