TalkTalk, Wind Tre sign up CGI, Qvantel for digital transformation projects

TalkTalk has contracted consulting services firm CGI to modernise its IT infrastructure, in one of a number of digital transformation deals that coincided with Mobile World Congress.

UK-based TalkTalk is implementing what it has termed a One IT Operations programme and tapped CGI to deliver it over the next five years.

As part of this, CGI will add monitoring and automation tools, and manage the migration of TalkTalk’s apps into a private cloud.

TalkTalk said One IT Operations was part of business-wide transformation programme that aimed to improve customer experience and make it more proactive and preventative rather than reactive.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tara McGeehan, President, CGI UK, said: “The UK’s telecoms market continues to be hugely competitive, and with the regulatory environment putting more pressure on organisations than ever before, it’s crucial that key industry players like TalkTalk get their operational systems and processes in good order.”

Meanwhile, Italy’s Wind Tre has selected Qvantel to deliver the likes of CRM and omnichannel services as part of its digital transformation programme.

The joint venture between the two CK Hutchison and VEON opcos has signed up the Finland-based vendor to provide its BSS as-a-service offering for the next six years.

The new IT stack will simplify business processes and improve customer experience, the two companies said.

Financial details were not disclosed.

Wind Tre CTO Benoit Hanssen said: “The new digital platform of Wind Tre is designed to support the most innovative online services, in order to best respond to the needs of our customers, who are increasingly digital-oriented.

“Thanks to this important partnership with Qvantel, Wind Tre will be able to fully digitalise its offering, creating a unique proposition to the market”.

Finally, Huawei announced plans to launch a Digital Transformation Practice Centre with Hong Kong Telecom (HKT) later this year.

Located at HKT’s headquarters, the centre will provide other operators with learnings from the operator’s own digital transformation journey.

It will offer demonstration of services and hands-on exercises to help attendees understand key topics such as network function virtualisation, the two companies said.
