Sigfox continues on IoT march with planned Italy rollout

    -

Sigfox is continuing its expansion across Europe after revealing plans to launch an IoT network in Italy.

The network provider has partnered with tower company EI Towers to deploy nationwide IoT connectivity in the country, which becomes the 10th to receive Sigfox’s ultra-narrowband network.

It follows deployments in the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Prague and Portugal this year.

The network, which will offer two-way connectivity to customers on a subscription basis, will be rolled out by EI Towers subsidiary Nettrotter.

Sigfox said it will work with developers and device manufacturers alongside Nettrotter to embed its ultra-narrowband protocol “into a wide range of applications”.

According to the company, Italy presents one of the biggest M2M markets in Europe with more than seven million connected objects.

Rodolphe Baronnet-Frugès, Sigfox EVP of Networks and Operators, said the country boasted “a very dynamic electronic industry at the forefront of the world IoT industry.”

Carlos Lambarri, CEO of Nettrotter, said: “Italian IoT customers are keen to adopt new, beneficial technology applications across multiple sectors such as smart cities, health care, manufacturing, construction, transportation and safety and security.

“The SIGFOX network is key to Nettrotter’s plan to install and operate the IoT throughout Italy, because it provides highly scalable connectivity at low-cost and very low energy consumption for connected devices.”Sigfox continues on IoT march with planned Italy rollout
