Sierra Wireless ups offering for Peugeot Citroën connected cars

    -

Sierra Wireless will provide a range of new connectivity solutions for PSA Peugeot Citroën’s upcoming fleet of connected cars.

Starting from 2017, PSA vehicles will be integrated with Sierra’s Legato platform and AirVantage device-to-cloud system, which will allow third-party connected car applications to be downloaded directly to wireless modules within vehicles.

As a result, customers will be able to access third-party connected car services such as navigation and driver assistance, entertainment, remote diagnostics and vehicle tracking and recovery systems, Sierra said.

Meanwhile, the equipment manufacturer’s AirVantage cloud will allow new applications to be downloaded securely to the in-car modules, also supplied by Sierra, and updated remotely over the air.

Sierra already provides connectivity solutions to some 1.6 million PSA vehicles, among which includes its in-vehicle emergency notification system.

The company claimed the new agreement would allow PSA and Sierra to bring “additional value-added connected car services” to drivers.

Brigitte Courtehoux, Director of PSA’s Connected Cars and Services Business Unit, said: “Our long collaboration with Sierra Wireless has enabled us to offer our customers leading-edge technology that not only helps keep them safer, but now could also provide connected services that deliver additional value.

“Sierra Wireless technology provides us with a full automotive-grade solution, including the wireless connectivity, the application support and the remote management capabilities we need to offer these services efficiently and cost-effectively.”
