P4 (Play) launches LTE roaming using BICS IPX

    -

Poland-based operator P4 (Play) has launched LTE roaming services using an IPX platform from BICS.

The agreement allows P4 customers to access connectivity, messaging and roaming services when travelling. Similarly, visitors to Poland will now be able to access data services on P4’s network.

P4 (Play) has 11.8 million customers

Jacek Niewęgłowski, CSO of P4, commented: “We are excited to add superior LTE speed to international roaming services, thanks to our cooperation with BICS.

“The enthusiastic response of our customers to the domestic LTE experience combined with the bundle of services provided by BICS oblige us to provide the highest quality of international roaming.”

Last month, research house Ovum forecast that global data roaming revenues will hit $50 billion (€40.2bn) in 2019 as IPX peering deals increase.

BICS, a wholesale carrier service provider owned by Belgacom, provides LTE roaming to destinations across the world using its IPX transport service.

It claims to have a European reach spanning 57 networks and was the first to achieve intercontinental 4G LTE roaming connections over IPX between operators in Europe, Asia and North America.

In November, the company announced it was bringing IP over satellite (IPoSat) services to Africa to bring connectivity to landlocked regions and provide backup for fibre and submarine cables.
