DNA debuts tri-carrier network ahead of device flurry

    -

Finnish operator DNA has used a mixture of three carrier aggregation, 256QAM and Ericsson technology to deliver theoretical maximum speeds of 600MBps.

It set up a base station in the Karuby village in Siuntio to increase its network capacity and speed. The operator is in the process of upgrading its network to prepare for the first tri-carrier compatible devices hitting the market towards the end of this year.

The upgrade used Ericsson’s Lean Carrier technology, which claims to reduce network disruptions and increase data transmission rates.

Jarkko Laari, Director of Radio Networks at DNA, said: “We want to keep providing our customers with the best possible network and the opportunity to use the latest 4G technology as soon as it is launched. The newest technology and good user experience go hand in hand. According to a recent survey by Omnitele, DNA provides the fastest mobile broadband in almost all of Finland’s most populous towns and cities. New functionalities will further increase average data transmission rates in DNA’s network.”

Anssi Kulju, head of Ericsson’s operator business in Finland, added: “Finland is the land of mobile broadband. We have high-speed networks with extensive coverage and, according to international comparisons, are highly active subscription users. As the Finnish people are really into mobile broadband, we need to ensure that connections and services are smooth and fast. The speed record we achieved with DNA shows that the network technology is also ready for future growth in usage.”

Yesterday, Nokia revealed it had set up a tri-carrier LTE Advanced network for Zain in Jeddah to help fulfill its smart city aspirations.
