Telenor Global Services and Telefónica Global Solutions have signed an IPX peering agreement, allowing roaming signalling services like SS7 over Sigtran and LTE diameter.
The deal covers more than 400 million subscribers across 30 countries in the Nordics, Europe, Asia and North America. Both companies said the deal will cover IPX transport for data roaming and is fully compliant with GSMA and i3Forum IPX guidelines.
Both operators said the deal will expand its footprint of LTE services and will allow them to integrate both legacy and new interconnection services such as VoLTE.
Telenor Global Services CEO Bjørn Iversen said: “The way we interact with one another today demands a lot from the mobile operators when it comes to the ability to offer increased customer satisfaction. The partnership between Telenor Global Services and Telefónica Global Solutions enables the mobile operators of the two Groups to easily expand their global business. At the same time it provides mobile subscribers with seamless international LTE/4G roaming as well as enabling a high quality voice and data service experience.”
Juan Revilla, CEO of Telefónica Global Solutions’ Wholesale Business Unit, added: “This agreement with our strategic partner is further evidence of our commitment to deliver quality and feature-rich services to our customers, who are increasingly demanding from us greater speed, end-to-end quality, security and reach. In particular, mobile subscribers increasingly want a seamless global roaming experience and this deal will ensure that we can meet those expectations.”
