Telekom Austria Group is working with car manufacturer Porsche to develop connected car services centred on the open platform DiBox.
DiBox, which has built by AMV Networks on bespoke software, is an open platform for developers wishing to build applications and services with data collected via an Android or iOS smartphone.
Consumers need to give prior approval before any data is sent, with information anonymised and not stored.
DiBox is based on what AMV claimed is a unique data security concept, which has been awarded the European Privacy Seal, the highest standard in terms of data protection.
It can be deployed in brand new car models and has also been designed as retrofit solution for used cars of up to eight years.
DiBOX has been available to order as a new car accessory for selected car Volkswagen and Audi models since the beginning of the year. Other group brands will soon follow suit, the companies said.
Telekom Austria, which is providing the SIM cards and the IT systems for billing and administration, said the partnership aims to deliver connected car services, such as detailing fuel consumption, speed and how well a driver navigates the road.

Further, it said individual solutions for SMEs and fleet customers are planned as DiBOX data can be easily integrated into single fleet management systems.
Alain Favey, CEO Porsche Holding Salzburg commented: “The new DiBOX helps to democratize the ‘Connected Car’. With Telekom Austria Group as our partner we guarantee first class connections and an open platform for future developments, both content wise and geographically.”
