Telefónica Germany picks Oracle for VoLTE, RCS-e services platform

    -

Telefónica Germany has selected Oracle’s Acme Packet session border controller platform to provide VoLTE and RCS-e services.

The operator will be using Oracle’s Acme Packet Net-Net Session Director running on the Acme Packet Net-Net 6300 platform to support fixed line IMS services, VoLTE and RCS-e services.

The two solutions are able to support multiple services, from VoLTE and RCS-e to residential VoIP on a single platform, Oracle said in a statement.

Dr Karsten Schröder, Head of Converged Solutions at Telefónica Germany, said the technology will “enable us to meet challenging VoLTE and RCS-e throughput and scalability demands while preserving our existing operational models”.

The Net-Net 6300 platform reduces power, cooling, cabling and rack space requirements, as well as minimising the number of session border controller elements in the network, which will help operators to save on capex and opex expenditure.

It also manages session initiation protocol (SIP) sessions between the operator’s service core and fixed and mobile endpoints, using comprehensive security capabilities and admission control features that protect against denial-of-service threats and non-malicious overloads, as well as load balancing and policy management features to enable high service quality.

Meanwhile, the Net-Net Session Director provides key IMS functionality at the device access and interconnect borders of the network, meaning that only a single session border control solution is required for both fixed line and mobile services.

“Next-generation services such as VoLTE and RCS-e will demand increasingly higher performance levels,” said Bhaskar Gorti, senior vice president and general manager at Oracle.

“Net-Net 6300 gives Telefónica Germany the capacity to meet its projected subscriber growth, while containing equipment and operating expenses.”
