Tango gets set for LTE-A in Luxembourg in 2015

-

Luxembourg-based operator Tango will be the first in the country to go live with an LTE-Advanced network, offering customers download speeds of up to 225Mbps.

The Belgacom-owned company has introduced the improved mobile network infrastructure to the cities of Luxembourg, Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange, Schifflange, Bertrange and Rodange. The networkโ€™s 4G customers will be able to benefit from the improved service during the first quarter of next year.

Tango said it plans to continue the rollout throughout 2015 to offer LTE-Advanced across the entire country.

Tango launched its LTE network more than two and a half years ago. Jean-Franรงois Willame, the operatorโ€™s Managing Director, said: โ€œWeโ€™re working hard every day to allow our customers access to the very best in technological innovations. This step forward opens up new opportunities for our customers and confirms Luxembourgโ€™s position among Europeโ€™s top-three countries for mobile network quality.โ€

Operators across Europe are continuing to push LTE-Advanced networks in order to improve overall network quality. Earlier this week, Finlandโ€™s Sonera went live with an LTE-A network in Helsinki, after aggregating spectrum in the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands.

Last month, Telekom Austria went live with LTE-Advanced in its home market and in its Slovenian subsidiary.

Yesterday, Orange and Ericsson reported speeds of 300MBps in an LTE-Advanced trial using spectrum on the 3.5GHz band.

There are now 20 commercially available LTE-Advanced networks across 14 countries. Research issued earlier this month from ABI Research claimed these networks would help the number of LTE-enabled handsets to break through the two billion barrier by 2020.
