Scartel chooses NEC to supply first LTE small cells base station in Russia

    -

Russian mobile operator Scartel, parent of Yota, has selected Japan-based vendor NEC to supply the first LTE microcell base stations in Russia, which will be used to provide commercial services.

In order to speed up 4G LTE roll outs, Russian mobile operators are using Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology, which enables multiple operators to provide services while sharing the same base station.

NEC has come up with an all-in-one small cells solution – a base station that incorporates its own unique radio resource management technology, which helps to increase network capacity and provide stable LTE services.

NEC’s LTE base stations are equipped with a Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) function, which enables base stations with different radiuses of coverage to work in unison.

In addition, a Self-Organising Network (SON) function facilitates the coexistence of products manufactured by multiple vendors within the same network, which assists with interoperability issues between legacy systems and new technology.

“Our microcell base stations have demonstrated excellent results in terms of automation and energy saving, which consequently helps operators using our technology to reduce both capes and opex,” said Raymond Armes, Managing Director of NEC Neva.

NEC’s LTE microcell base stations are now operating in Scartel’s LTE network across major cities including Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Krasnodar and Sochi.
