OneM2M, a global standards initiative for M2M and the IoT, has announced it will showcase its first connectivity specifications later this year.
The body will hold live demonstrations at the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) M2M workshop in December, marking the first time the industry will be able to see the specifications in action.
It follows the release by the body’s first set of standards for M2M communications enabling large-scale implementation of the IoT in August.
Last month, a report from Machina Research concluded that the IoT sector is being held back a “mess” of competing technologies and standards. It said OneM2M should be the framework used to interface between different communication networks.
Meanwhile, Gartner said inflated expectations around the IoT led it to giving the sector the title of most hyped emerging tech in the digital industry.
Fran O’Brien, Steering Committee Chair for oneM2M, said: “The M2M market is undergoing rapid development and growth and as such requires a set of specifications that are going to work at the service layer to stitch M2M protocols and solutions together as one.
“Our first Candidate Release specifications are aimed at enabling such a solution and provide a common means for communications service providers to support applications and services.”
