Nokia Networks signs three year network deal with Telefónica

    -

Nokia Networks is to deploy its single RAN and radio network controller technology as part of a three year deal with Telefónica to modernise its Spanish network and expand its 4G service.

The vendor has been signed as the key supplier for radio access equipment across Andalusia, Galicia, Castilla Leon and Levante. It will upgrade and speed up the 4G rollout by deploying its Single RAN Advanced product, which is based on its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station.

Among the other products that will be deployed is its Multicontroller Platform for the 3G Radio Network Controller, which it said would increase network efficiency and resilience. Nokia Networks will also plan and optimise the network, as well as providing customer experience management.

Agustín Menchén at Nokia Networks said: “The ongoing growth of data traffic is creating massive pressure on networks, which have to meet the demands of an increasing number of mobile devices and technologies. As a frontrunner in mobile broadband, we are committed to helping Telefónica build an advanced network infrastructure that reaffirms its leadership as an operator that constantly evolves and adapts to new technology.”

Telefónica’s Joaquín Mata added: “Our customers are increasingly adopting advanced smartphones and enjoying data-heavy multimedia content, so delivering more services while improving their quality is more important than ever. This modernisation, one of the greatest of the kind ever carried out in Spain, will allow us to achieve these goals and optimise the performance of our network to offer the best possible user experience.”
