First 5G radio channel models “finalised”

    -

Wireless equipment company Anite has claimed to have finalised the world’s first 5G radio channel models as part of the EU-lead METIS project.

Anite said the proposal outlines test cases, end-user scenarios and requirements for 5G channel models, which span current mobile frequencies up to millimetre and centimetre-wave.

It also includes a framework for modelling 5G for different radio channel applications, Anite said, claiming the proposal would help accelerate 5G-related R&D, system performance evaluation, system optimisation, radio interface simulation and prototyping.

The proposal is the first to delivered by an international body of key industry players under METIS, a consortium of vendors and operators co-founded by the European Commission.

The group aims to develop a concept for future mobile and wireless communications systems by establishing a European consensus on the technology, as well as contributing toward pre-standardisation and regulation processes.

Partners include Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, Deutsche Telekom, Huawei, Orange, Nokia Networks and Telefónica amongst others.

Paul Beaver, Products Director at Anite’s Device & Infrastructure Testing business, said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone in collaboration with key industry players; delivering significant technical expertise to help speed up next generation wireless technology development.

“Anite’s Propsim radio Channel Emulator, with industry-first 5G radio channel models, will enable developers to characterise the performance of early 5G designs.”

METIS members Ericsson and Deutsche Telekom both launched 5G labs in Europe last month, as the continent makes a concerted effort to be a leader in the technology.
