EE keeps lead as UK’s best performing network

    -

EE continues to be the UK’s best performing network, despite a spirited challenge from Three, with Vodafone languishing in last place, new research has revealed.

RootMetrics’s third report in the UK mobile market, charting the second half of 2014, found EE held its position as the country’s best operator. It topped the speed, mobile internet, call and text categories and tied with Three in the reliability stakes. It had an overall performance score of 89.4.

Three came second, upping its overall performance from 73.5, for the first half of 2014, to 86.2. It also came second in the speed, mobile internet, call and text categories.

Vodafone was last for the second report in a row, scoring 78.8, an improvement on its previous score of 52.4. It came just behind rival O2, which scored 79.5. The Telefónica company, which is takeover talks with Three, came joint last for reliability, and last in the speed, mobile internet and text categories.

Elsewhere, RootMetrics also said EE was the top operator in 13 out of 16 metropolitan areas throughout the UK, tying with either O2 or Three in the remaining areas.

RootMetrics CEO and President Bill Moore said: “The networks are all getting better, period. We saw improvements across the board in speed, mobile internet performance, and network reliability. Consumers deserve more reliable mobile experience wherever they are whether they’re making a call, downloading a video, ot texting friends.”

The company said it travelled more than 24,000 miles throughout the UK to research the report, holding tests indoors, outside, while driving and at different times of the day.

According to figures released from UK regulator Ofcom last year, EE was the top performer for LTE, followed by O2 and Vodafone. There was no information about Three, with the regulator claiming a difference between submitted data and its own records.
